Frequently asked questions

Quick, practical answers about exporting your Apple Health data with vitalina - where your files go, how CSV zip bundles work, automating exports with Shortcuts, and putting your name on a report. Everything happens on your iPhone, with no account and no cloud.

How do I cancel my vitalina subscription?

There's nothing to cancel - vitalina has no subscription. vitalina Pro is a one-time purchase: you pay once and it's yours forever, with no recurring charges.

To double-check, open Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iPhone - vitalina won't be listed, because it never creates one. Moved to a new iPhone? Open vitalina's Settings and tap Restore Purchases to unlock Pro again at no extra cost.

The free version stays free forever, with 5 unique exports and date ranges up to 14 days.

How do I unzip a CSV export?

When a CSV export contains more than one table - several data types, an ECG (which has a summary plus its waveform), or your personal details - vitalina bundles it as a .zip with one .csv per data type plus a metadata.json index that lists what's inside. A single data type with no personal details stays a plain .csv.

To open the .zip:

  • iPhone or iPad: save it to the Files app (Save to Files on the share sheet), then tap the .zip in Files - iOS unpacks it into a folder of the same name.
  • Mac: double-click the .zip in Finder.
  • Windows: right-click the .zip and choose "Extract All".

Each .csv opens directly in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets.

Where can I find my exported files?

vitalina never stores your data on a server - your export lives on your device. When an export is ready, tap Export to open the iOS share sheet, where you can:

  • Save to Files - on your iPhone or in iCloud Drive
  • Email or AirDrop it
  • Send it via Messages
  • Print a physical copy

If you chose Save to Files, open the Files app and look in the folder you picked.

Inside vitalina, your last few exports also appear under Recent Exports on the main screen - vitalina keeps the export settings, not your health data, so you can re-run any of them, and re-exporting the same data is always free. New here? See the full export walkthrough.

How do I change which Apple Health data vitalina can access?

vitalina only reads the Apple Health categories you allow, and you can change them any time in iOS Settings:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Go to Privacy & Security > Health.
  • Tap vitalina.
  • Under Read, turn the data types on or off.

vitalina asks for the access it needs the next time you export, so if a metric looks empty, check that its category is enabled here. Everything is read-only - vitalina never writes to or deletes anything in Apple Health.

How do I create a combined ZIP with Shortcuts?

Add vitalina's ready-made Combined CSV export shortcut: open the link on your iPhone, tap Add Shortcut, then run it. It exports your health data as CSV and gives you a single .zip containing one .csv per data type plus a metadata.json index that lists what's inside - the same combined bundle you get in the app.

Want it to run on a schedule? Add the shortcut to an automation. Shortcuts is part of vitalina Pro.

How do I automatically export health data with Shortcuts?

Set up a recurring export in Apple's Shortcuts app using vitalina's Export Health Data action:

  • Open Shortcuts and go to the Automation tab, then tap New Automation.
  • Pick a trigger such as Time of Day and set the schedule.
  • Add the Export Health Data action and configure the data types, format, time range, and unit system.
  • Chain follow-up actions - for example Save to Files or Send Message - to deliver the file.

Because Apple Health can only be read while your iPhone is unlocked, enable "Run After Confirmation": you get a notification at the scheduled time and tap once to run the export. See the full step-by-step Shortcuts guide for screenshots. Automation is a vitalina Pro feature.

How do I change the name of an export?

The file name is generated automatically from what you exported - for example health-heart-rate-2026-07-01-to-2026-07-31.csv, or health-report-... for a combined export - so it stays consistent and can't be edited.

What you can customize is the report title shown on the report. To set it:

  • Preview an export, then open Your details from the toolbar.
  • Fill in the This report field (for example "Cardiology checkup").

On a PDF that title becomes the heading; it is also saved with the export under Recent Exports and included in the metadata of CSV and JSON bundles. The report title applies to that one export.

How do I add my name to an export?

Open Your details - from vitalina's Settings, or from the toolbar when you preview an export - then:

  • Enter your first and last name.
  • Optionally switch on Add date of birth to include it.
  • Or tap Choose from Contacts to fill it in from your own contact card.

Your details are saved only on your iPhone and added to your exports so a printed report can be matched to you.

On a PDF your name (and date of birth, if added) appears in a patient band near the top; in CSV and JSON exports it is included in the metadata, and adding your details makes a CSV export a .zip bundle.

Leave the fields empty and your exports stay anonymous. Because the details are saved to your profile, exports you run from Shortcuts include them too.
