About us

Built by two people who just wanted their own data

vitalina is made by Marina and Martin, a married couple in Dresden, Germany, trading as amazeing GmbH. We built an Apple Health export app because we could not get our own data out of our own iPhones. There are two of us, no investors, and no business model beyond the app itself - which is why vitalina is a one-time purchase and why your health data never leaves your device.

Why we built vitalina

Hi! We're Marina and Martin - a married couple who love running, working out, and geeking out over health data. We've both been wearing an Apple Watch since 2015, so between the two of us that's over 20 years of heart rates, steps, sleep, and workouts.

Martin had this dream of feeding all his running data - paces, heart rate, elevation, seasons of training - into an AI to get a truly personalised training plan. Not some generic 5K programme, but one built on his actual body and history.

Meanwhile, Marina was pregnant and desperately wanted to share her daily health trends with her doctor. Blood pressure, resting heart rate, sleep - all sitting right there in Apple Health.

Turns out? Neither of us could get our data out. Apple's export is a monstrous XML file. So we gave up after 6 and a half hours and a dead battery. Every third-party app wanted a subscription or locked us into yet another dashboard.

We just wanted our own data in a clean format we could actually use. So we did what two people in tech do - we built the thing ourselves.

That's vitalina. Pick your metrics, choose a date range, export. CSV, JSON, or a beautiful PDF for your doctor. No account, no cloud, everything stays on your phone.

Who's behind vitalina

Two people in tech, and health and fitness enthusiasts. We write the code, answer the support mail, and use the app on our own health data.

What we believe

Four decisions we made early and have not traded away since.

Your data never leaves your device

Every export is generated on your iPhone. There is no cloud, no account, no sign-up, and no analytics or tracking - in the app or on this website. We could not read your health data if we wanted to.

One-time purchase, never a subscription

A tool you use a few times a year before a doctor visit should not bill you monthly. vitalina Pro is a one-time purchase from €3.99 (at most €4.99 depending on your region), and the free tier covers short date ranges in every format.

Charts instead of a data dump

Apple’s own export is one enormous XML file. A doctor has minutes, not hours. vitalina produces PDFs with trend charts, clear date ranges and the units clinicians expect - and CSV or JSON when you want the raw numbers.

We build what we use ourselves

Both of us have worn an Apple Watch since 2015 and we export our own data with vitalina before our own appointments. Every feature started as something one of us needed.

The bigger mission

Underneath all of this is one conviction: you should have agency over your own health and fitness data. Your watch and your phone record more about your body than any doctor's visit ever will, and that record should be yours to read, to question, to hand to whoever you choose - not something you rent back from an app that keeps it behind a dashboard and a monthly fee.

vitalina is the first step of that: getting the data out. We've since started building further health and fitness apps in the same spirit - among them Astrea.

Why "vitalina"?

Naming something you love is hard ♥️. We went through dozens of ideas before landing on vitalina - from the Latin vitalis, meaning "full of life". For an app that holds your most intimate health data, it just felt right. Like a little life force in your pocket.

And if you look closely at our logo, you'll see two hands gently embracing a heart. The heart is Apple Health's symbol - and by holding it close, we're saying: this data is yours. It always was. We're just helping you take it home.

Get in touch

Write to info@vitalina.app - it comes straight to the two of us. Bug reports, feature requests and cooperation enquiries are equally welcome: practices and coaches, health app and device makers, writers and researchers.

vitalina is our passion project. If it's useful to you, buying Pro or leaving a quick App Store review would make our day.
